Do it forever

Today we will talk about Doing a Mantra Yagna.

As a YAGNA is a special activity, a mantra yagna is an activity undertaken to do special mantra japa for the specified number of times.

A Lakhsha Archana is a Mantra Yagna.

This involves a mantra japa of 100,000 times of your choosen mantra – all mantra are equal in potency – they are a call to God Almighty and you can’t say that the mother will respond more eagerly if the child cried melodiously or not so if he cried hoarsely.

A Laksha Archana when doing alone or with family has to be calculated before hand – eg for doing alone, by yourself - 100000 japa  of Laksha Arcahna, divided  by 100 (beads in each mala) = 1000 malas. Each mala is 108 beads but, we take into count only 100.

1000 malas have to be done, how many malas you can do every day will tell you the number of days you can complete the Divine Laksha Archana.

Depending on the mantra you choose will be the time you take to do one mala. Small mantra will take less time and the japa of any Gayatri Mantra will take much much longer.

If your time available daily is a variable then, what you do every day, record it in a diary or note book. Here you should have your daily target written and whenever there is shortfall, due to time variable - you should do more to make up the next few days or the next Sunday you have complete all the back log. No going out for this and that – do your japa.

Now, this is the regulated daily quota, over a period of a number of days, will give you a complete Laksha Archana. Rejoice the reaching the Target date – thank your God for helping you thru this, share the joy with devotee friends and close ones, distribute prasadam.

However, the long time between the japa at the regulated time, will be the time when you remember God, and even do japa, but cannot weild a japa mala - travelling by car, bus, metro or in office or market. These days with an electronic gadget you can keep count at your own pace the japa that goes on. I have personally found that you can click upto 8,000 to10,000 on a normal day. The gadget is so small that you can click it doing your japa while talking with others – even your boss. You may even opt for this gadget to do your japa – throughout the waking hours – put it on you finger – like a ring and as you do your household chores - keep clicking as you do your japa in the back ground, and where you get involved – you won’t click. I have found this gadget invaluable in my japa.

If you have some devotee and friends who want to participate the working are the same. For eg you have group of 50 devotees. 1000 malas divided by 50 = 20 malas per head. On a Sunday you all can get together at the same place and chant out the 20 malas together.

Now, you all are empowered with the means to do your Laksha Archana – all alone or with all your friends, devotees and others.

Be warned, that there are groups who take money to do that japa for you. Baba said, when you have the cassette player chanting the mantra the credit will go to the cassette player and not to you.

With your money power – you can employ 50 pandits to do you japa, but, then will you benefit. NO.

Set your own target, Set your own pace. Do it yourself – achieve Bliss.

Get ready – it is 43 days to the Birth Anniversary of our Beloved Sri Sri Sri Sathya Sai Baba, let us offer Him a bouquet of Laksha Archanas from all over the world.

We should help ourselves to understand it better

All tragedy of life, all misery and inharmony are caused by one thing and that is lack of understanding. Lack of understanding comes from lack of penetration. The one who does not see from the point of view from which he ought to see becomes disappointed because he cannot understand.
It is not for the outer world to help us to understand life better; it is we ourselves who should help ourselves to understand it better.

The First Tenet: Clarity of Intention

The First Tenet of Evolutionary Enlightenment is called Clarity of Intention. This tenet points directly to the essential nature of the evolutionary impulse itself: the wholehearted, passionate intention to exist, to develop, to become, to evolve. That impulse is the same uninhibited YES that burst forth as the big bang, that compels the body to procreate and the mind to innovate. When that impulse expresses itself at the highest levels of consciousness, it is experienced as the inspiration that pulls us toward spiritual liberation and enlightenment. It is the mysterious drive to become more conscious. To have Clarity of Intention means to align oneself with the clear and single-pointed purpose of that impulse itself. And the way that alignment occurs, in a human heart and mind, is that the intention to evolve becomes more important to us than anything else in this world.

It is not God’s partiality or fault

Q: Why are some people born more beautiful, or more intelligent, than others are? Why does not God give everyone equal beauty, abilities and talents?

A: It is not God’s partiality or fault. It is the human being who is responsible. His actions, thoughts and words are responsible for all good and bad. It is the mind that creates the differences. Pleasure is an interval between two pains.  It is the way you look at things that matters.

There is a vast ocean of talents and qualities.  All human beings have vessels to fill. Some people, through their actions, are able to fill the vessels to the brim; some fill only half; others can fill only a quarter, or less. They possess intelligence, beauty, talents, etcs, according to how much they can fill their vessels.
You even judge beauty these days, as in Miss India, Miss World. But, that is all physical beauty, which is transient. What is important is the beauty of the Atma (Self). – Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba

Fullness of the Mind

[Excerpts from the Series 'Science of Inner Redemption' being published in the Ashram Monthly Journal 'Vicharasetu - The Path of Introspection']

The whole spiritual pursuit revolves around Brahman, the non-dual reality ever present. But the purpose of saadhana is to free the mind from the stranglehold of emotional turbulence and intellectual oscillations. Unless this inner sublimity and enrichment are ensured, spirituality will remain a wasteful indulgence, a sheer pastime, with no specific end in view.

Like the torrential river uprooting the trees from its bank, spiritual wisdom and introspection should become a powerful current exterminating mind’s inheritance of deep-rooted passion and prejudice, and the resulting delight and depression. A saint is one, who constantly delves into his mind and gets at the very source of raaga (attraction) and dvesha (repulsion). If he does not do so, he is not a saint at all.

It is immaterial whether or not people adore him and his sainthood. Mind is the real trouble. The same mind, freed from the trouble, is the ultimate invaluable treasure too. The mind sublimated by enlightened intelligence is the true spiritual goal, merit and attainment.

Bhagavadgeeta declares that egoism and possessiveness are the real traitors in human life. With the mind not feeling “I am doing”, and with the intelligence not fostering any identity with whatever has been done, even if all people are slain, the act will not bind the slayer.

Activities always follow some sequences, encompassing individual and social qualities, all of which are ultimately traceable to the complex Nature. Nonhuman beings do not claim or disclaim anything they do, and they do not also have any notion of bondage and liberation. The mind and intelligence of the human play havoc in him. These have to be set right. It is the possessiveness and ego that cause all disorder, torment and bondage.

Mind is like a tempest of desires. When all desires become extinct, like the flame in a lamp that has run out of oil, one wins over the world. The world will no more be a source of agitation and torment. Sage Vasishtha makes it very unique, when he says that such a Knower is like a great conqueror painted on the wall or screen!

The inner spiritual conquest, compared to that of the kings’ and emperors’, is without bloodshed. It is a victory by the mind over the mind’s own enemies.

The mento-intelligential sublimity and fullness showered by spiritual introspection is a magnificence, exaltation, singular in every way. One who is full within, will have no need to gain anything whatsoever from the world, however rare and exquisite it may be. In any situation, this inner sufficiency will endure.

Even when the objects are gained by effort, is it not the mind that creates satisfaction? The same mind can as well generate contentment without dependence on anything external. Joy is emotional, and the inner instrument, namely the mind is its sovereign Lord.

Liberation of the individual consists in his mind not swinging with the ups and downs of pleasant and unpleasant developments. The world can bring and cause only these two. When one transcends or becomes immune to these, he has won over the world in full!

LOVE IS THE PANACEA

He who has no love cannot know God – for God is love. Love is the greatest force in this world. Love is immortal. Love is God. Where love is there God is. Therefore become an embodiment of love. Love is God. Love is light. Light is wisdom. Wisdom is divine life – it is oneness, unity.

The deeper a man’s love of God is, the greater is his spiritual knowledge. The final consummation of the love of God is union with God. Love of God is not easily acquired by self effort – it is inborn in man by virtue of his spiritual evolution.

Love God alone. Be detached and renounce everything for the sake of love of God. Cosmic love expects not any reward. It excludes none but includes all. Develop more and more pure divine love. Then the inner light will shine more brightly. Cultivate divine love. This selfless love is a great treasure – a pearl of great price.

Cultivate an abiding faith in God’s love, mercy and grace. The lover himself becomes the beloved of his heart. Their love is so deep and intense that they merge in each other and then again re-emerge. They are the two inseparable aspects of the one.

Love envies not. Love resents not. Love revenges not. Love bargains not. God in his boundless love and mercy promptly chastises proud and arrogant persons, thus paving the way for a return to humility.

God reveals himself daily to every human being – but man shuts his eyes and does not see Him. Infinite is God. Infinite are His aspects and infinite are the ways to reach Him. The divine being is a living reality, a powerful presence that responds to our prayers, an all pervading delight of existence that sustains our life.
Find God within yourself in silence.

Love is the cure for all evil. The power of love can transform the universe which is fettered in chains of hatred. Love is all-purifying and all-redeeming. Love is the greatest purifying force in the world. Love is the greatest creative force in the world.

MY MIND DO NOT CRY

The syllable OM spoken is the essence of the lower and the higher knowledge. It is Brahman, space-like. There is neither existence nor non-existence in this world. Brahman is ever free from duality. You are that Atman of which the Shruti says, “Tat Twam Asi [you are That].” Know that you are free from maya. Do not cry, mind, verily you are all. There is neither higher nor lower in you. You pervade all equally, and there is neither inner nor outer. Then why do you mourn, mind? All, all is Brahman. Neither that which is imagined, nor the imagination exist in you; know that cause and effect touch you not. Free from words and all expressions are you, eternally the same. Mind, do not cry. To know that there is neither higher nor lower in Atman is Samadhi [note]; to know that Atman is ever free from time and space is Samadhi. Do not cry, mind, all is Brahman. (NOTE: It is a sort of existential definition.)As there is no jar, there is no jar space. As there is no jiva body, no conditioning medium, there is no jiva. The cause and effect that produce conditions do not exist in Atman. Why then do you cry, my mind? It is all one whether we live in a hut in retirement, or in a house with many kinfolk, for Atman is free from the multitude as from solitude. Free also is It from knowledge, theoretical and practical, Atman being All, my mind, do not cry.

As each individual is a unique entity

As each individual is a unique entity, so too each nation has a unique individuality. Each person is different from others in certain matters and is endowed with some special characteristics which are his own. So too, each nation has certain special features, not found in others. Each individual has to play a role as part of the system. His own previous Karma or activity has determined a special line or path for him. The history of nations too is the same. Each has to play a role already laid down by its destiny. Each nation has to deliver a special message of its own to the world community. – Sri sathya Sai Baba.

The Ultimate Spiritual Practice

The ultimate spiritual practice, as I teach it, is facing everything and avoiding nothing. When you truly face everything and avoid nothing, you will no longer be afraid to stand tall—before your own conscience, before others, before God. This is because you are no longer hiding anything from yourself. Through this noble practice, you will cultivate integrity and discover the kind of soul-strength that only comes from fearlessly facing the truth. The instinctive defense mechanisms that the ego hides behind will crumble, and your self and soul will become a transparent vehicle through which the evolutionary impulse can work in this world.

There are four paths or stages

There are four paths or stages that lead a person to spiritual knowledge, from the limited to the unlimited.

The first stage is Shariat. This is where the God-ideal is impressed upon mankind as authority, as fear of God.
This really means conscientiousness, not fear as is usually thought. If we love, we do not wish to displease; love does not force us to act, but it asks us to be conscientious and take care not to cause the least disharmony with the one whose happiness we want. …

This stage of Shariat is that in which a person asks himself what will please Him, or displease Him. He learns his religion from his parents, from his friends. A good action pleases, a bad action displeases, and pride displeases most; he learns everything very easily by seeing what displeases another. How easy it is; and yet they still go to a clergyman or to a priest, to ask what pleases God. And all the time it is just what pleases man that pleases God, and therefore if we please all around us, we please God; if we displease them, we displease God. A man who has attained to this stage
realizes what reward comes to him when he pleases the world, and what happens when he does not.
